Feng Shui distinguishes 2 types of people - East and West, and two types of homes - each with its own favorable and unfavorable directions.

There are 4 positive and 4 negative directions for each person and for each home in Feng Shui. The location of each particular area in your house depends on the house’s positioning and Kua number of the head of the family. Similarly, each individual has own good and bad compass directions.

Feng Shui Directions of the Home

Each house has its personal Feng Shui trigram which determines where the particular place is located within the house. The trigram that belongs to your house depends on the location of the house’s back wall.

Here is the list of trigrams that correspond to different locations of homes:

Name – Back sits – Front faces

  • Li – South – North
  • Kun – Southwest – Northeast
  • Dui – West – East
  • Chien – Northwest – Southeast
  • Kan – North – South
  • Ken – Northeast – Southwest
  • Chen – East – West
  • Sun – Southeast – Northwest

East and West Types of People and Homes

These 8 types of houses are divided into two larger groups:

  • East houses – Li, K’an, Chen, Sun. Feng Shui elements of fire, water and wood dominate in such dwellings.
  • West houses - K’un, Tui, Chien, Ken. These homes are ruled by Feng Shui elements of earth and metal.

Therefore, the ideal house should be chosen depending on your Kua number and the group of people you belong to (East or West). If, for instance you belong to the East group of people (those with Kua number 1, 3, 4, or 9), you will be happier in an East-type home. If your Kua number is 2, 6, 7 or 8 (West group), your life will be much better in a West-type house.

Good and Bad Feng Shui Directions

Furthermore, each group of dwelling has own good and bad places. This list of positive and negative directions for each type of the house will help you to determine which places of your home are better for spending time, sleeping or working.

Type of the house – 4 Good directions – 4 Bad directions

  • Li – East, Southeast, South, North – Northeast, West, Southwest, Northwest
  • Kun – West, Northwest, Southwest, Northeast – East, North, South, Southeast
  • Dui – Northwest, Southwest, Northeast, West – East, North, South, Southeast
  • Chien – West, Northeast, Southwest, Northwest – East, Southeast, South, North
  • Kan – North, East, South, Southeast – Northeast, West, Southwest, Northwest
  • Ken – Northeast, Northwest, West, Southwest – East, North, South, Southeast
  • Chen – East, North, South, Southeast – West, Northeast, Southwest, Northwest
  • Sun – Southeast, South, East, North – Northeast, Northwest, West, Southwest

An ideal option is when favorable directions of your home correspond to your personal positive directions. Such are the places where you should spend most of your time, rest, sleep, work and eat. However, even if not all of the directions correspond, a solution is just to avoid spending too much time in the most negative places.

Alla Kondrat :
Hello!

Thank you for the question – it’s a good one!

As it can be seen, your personal auspicious directions (East, Southeast, South and North) are totally opposite to the most favorable directions of your house (West, Northeast, Southwest and Northwest). So it can be assumed that the positive impact of energies that come from your personal good directions is simply neutralized by the configuration of your home. That is not, of course, a disaster, but the disadvantage is that potentially you can use and enjoy only about 70% of your home’s positive free energy.

Therefore, it would be worth to enhance at least your favorable directions. It will be of some help if the front door, internal doors that lead to your bedroom and office, your work desk, and bed head face one of your personal auspicious directions (ideally - East). In short – spend more time facing your personal auspicious directions.

Another concept to think about is the time factor. Calculate and watch your flying stars to determine the best directions for each particular time period (I will be writing about the flying stars system later, but some information can be found online now).

Feel free to contact me if you have further questions!

Good luck!
Alla
