Feng Shui believes sounds can both improve and worsen people's health, here are some tips to eliminate bad and use good Feng Shui sounds.

Sounds, as well as everything that surrounds people, have a direct influence on the health and well-being of humans. Feng Shui recognizes sounds that have positive influence on people’s health, such as pleasant music or the clanging of wind chimes, and those that ruin both the physical and mental state of individuals. This can be explained by the assertion that each type of sound has a different influence on the quality of energy flows within the person’s environment.

Sources of Good and Bad Feng Shui Sounds

Sound vibrations have a significant influence of the quality of Chi energy in a dwelling. Shrilly, disharmonious and unpleasant sounds disperse Chi in different directions, thus disturbing the balanced and set flow of energy around the house. By contrast, clear and melodious sounds stimulate flows of energy without changing their directions.

Both high- and low-frequency vibrations that are usually “unheard” by people may lead to increase in people’s irritability, stresses and depression. Most of such background sounds are produced by electronic and ventilation devices, as well as by domestic appliances. Noise of the refrigerator, movement of elevators, low vibration of heating batteries, street traffic, working computers – all these sounds are so common in the everyday life of average people, that humans notice them (or their absence) only after the devices are turned off.

Feng Shui Tip: Eliminate or Use that Sound?

Sound equipment that imitates sounds of nature, such as water, wind or forest, does mask the negative sounds in and around the house, but, in most cases, does not eliminate their negative influence. Therefore, among the best options for fighting those annoying sounds might be modern wall trimming: decorative panels made of sound-absorbing materials, or even sound-absorbing curtains. At least external noises will stop disturbing the owners of the premise.

At the same time, additional sounds energize the Yan qualities of Chi. Therefore, a turned-on radio in the room that seems dull may enliven the premise and make it more comfortable and suitable for communication or active recreation. The same approach, however, is not a good option for an office or a cozy bedroom, where an excess of active Yan energy is not as favorable.

So, regulate the level of any controlled sounds in accordance with the purpose of the room and needs of its dwellers. Furthermore, use such a convenient Feng Shui cure as wind chimes to, firstly, harmonize the energy of the room and, secondly, fill the premise with pleasant clanging.

Feng Shui considers sounds, both obvious and unheard, to have a direct impact on people’s physical and mental health. For that reason it is advised to use sound-absorbing materials in home design in order to eliminate the negative influence of external noises. Listen to pleasant music and musical instruments, and use wind chimes to improve the quality of Chi flows inside the building.

Thumb's up. Husband and I are soon moving to our first empty nest apartment (Can you tell I'm excited?) But we are most excited about having separate bedrooms. For social correctness I am telling ppl this is because he must be up for work at 4 AM and goes to bed at 7:30 PM, which is true. But, for the 21 years of marriage, I have shared our bedroom, not just with him, but with the entire county 911 personnel, via his two way radio he refuses to turn off, and also a scanner, and TV. (Frankly, at our last home of 14 years, I relegated myself to the peaceful, finished attic, and refused to have a tv there.) Much as I love this man, I don't sleep as soundly as he and the bed just isn't big enough for ALL OF US! (Imagine my distaste at the gang including a high school acquaintance I don't get along with!)

When we picture a refuge of serenity and tranquility, who doesn’t think of the majestic stillness of the silent woods or the peace of a sunlit meadow? Compared to the obnoxious city, these sanctuaries revitalize us. The ideal solution for dramatically reducing noise pollution in the home is to wrap the source (home theater, laundry, etc.) with Acoustiblok® wall treatment or acoustic panels.
