Feng Shui considers the sun to be a natural carrier of positive Feng Shui energy. It is a Yang energy that gives life to everything. Artificial sources of light in Feng Shui, such as lamps, chandeliers or candles, have, in their turn similar qualities. Much, however, depends on their location.
Locating Lamps for Good Feng Shui
Do not locate bright lamps right over the head or on the working desk. It is better to use standard lamps or sconces that give rather mild and dispersed light. An ideal case is when it’s possible to regulate the brightness of the lamps – in such a way the overall illumination of the room can be changed depending on your mood and momentary preferences.
As for the form of lamps, they are better to be round – closer to the shape of the sun, the representation of which they are in the house.
Chandeliers in Feng Shui Design
Traditionally, most houses have rooms with chandeliers hung under the ceiling. It is initially a positive thing in Feng Shui: a chandelier in the center of the room enhances the Bagua health area of the premise, thus ensuring the room’s energy will help the family to be healthy. However, a chandelier should not be hung too low, because in such a case it suppresses Chi.
A special case is the living room, where the family usually spends time together or meets guests. This room should always be well-lit, because bright light in the living room enhances communication and unites the people.
Feng Shui Light of Candles
Candles have a great advantage of being able to ‘burn’ all the negative energy. Therefore, it is always a good idea to light up your candles at least once a week. The more often the candles are lit up, the more positive they will bring into life. However, be careful with candles lit in the south. This compass direction is ruled by the fire element of Feng Shui. Thus, a lit candle will make the power of fire dominate over all the other elements in the room and, in some cases, lead to negative consequences.
Light does not only improve the energy and outlook of each room. It can also change and improve life. Depending on which area of life you wish to improve, locate more sources of light in the corresponding Bagua area. If, for instance, you need help in financial affairs, light up the wealth area of the house or a room. If you are looking for love, illuminate Feng Shui zone or love and romance. So, more light (lamps, candles, etc.) in a particular Feng Shui area will help to make the corresponding aspect of life better.
